It's always good to see drill acts reach the album stage, it showcases their development as an artist.
Loski's album Music, Trial & Trauma: A Drill Story is album that is split into three parts, a gritty side, a radio side, and a thoughtful side with interludes defining each part.
The 1st Part
It was clear that he wanted to capture his original fans in this section because this was straight drill. It showed that he still remembers where he came from and wanted to make it clear so he put it at the beginning to signify the start of his "Drill Story. I thought this part was cool, he is still keeping up with the modern style of drill. "On Me" is the standout track in this section in my opinion.
The 2nd Part
The 2nd part was a documentation of the glamourous rapper life he is exposed to now. I wasn't big fan of this part because I think it was too ovbious he was chasing radio. The songs weren't bad I just found them forgettable. I think hits come organically so when you package it so blatant, it feels a bit forced.
The 3rd Part
My favourite section. Akala kicks off this part perfectly, with an in depth analysis of the problems young black men face in London. In this segment Loski was being much more reflective and it was good to see Loski paying homage to UK classics like "Black" by Bashy and Blinded By The lights - Mike Skinner it shows that we in UK have a solid foundation of music that artists are still working with.
"Pray that my little brother becomes a baller, they think that roads done suttin for me" Is a line Loski says in "Black" what this tells me is that Loski is hurt from his experiences on the roads, this kind of transperency in tracks is needed for the younger generations.
Conclusion
I think that this last part could have been a whole album; I could listen to whole project on this vibe. The substance and the unique beats is what drew me in
Overall, this album has songs for everyone, and I'm excited to see how Loski will develop in the future because he has shown plenty signs of evolution on this album.
